The Annual Beach Bike Ride for Charity in Wells Beach, Maine, has announced a new partnership with the American Cancer Society. As such, proceeds from this year’s Beach Bike Ride will be dedicated to helping cancer patients throughout the State of Maine.
There is a huge need to help cancer patients receive vital treatment. Transportation to and from treatment, where to stay and how to afford accommodations can be huge concerns for many cancer patients.
Fortunately, with fundraisers like Beach Bike Ride, ACS is able to supplement many programs and services in Maine such as Road to Recovery, a volunteer-based, free service providing transportation for cancer patients. ACS also supports Hope Lodge, a free overnight lodging facility in Boston for patients and their caregivers Jennifer Beadnell, a volunteer with the American Cancer Society (ACS)
“We are truly excited to be working with the Beach Bike Ride for Charity this year so that we may continue offering these services to many more cancer patients in Maine,” stated Dawn Emery, Community Executive, American Cancer Society Inc.
“The Beach Bike Ride is preparing for it’s fourth annual event this year,” stated Mike Fairweather, a co-founder of the Ride and a cancer survivor. He shared that “Everyone knows someone who is challenged by cancer. We recognize the hope and life-saving work that the American Cancer Society provides and are excited to support them”.
Riders may register online for the Beach Bike Ride for Charity to be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 7:30 AM. Donations and “virtual rider” registrations are also encouraged and accepted on the website or by mailing funds to Beach Bike Ride, PO Box 68, Wells, ME 04090.
The registration fee is $35 and includes a free “I’m Riding For” T shirt for the first 150 riders. Riders will enjoy a beautiful ten mile bike ride along the Wells seacoast. A water stop will refresh cyclists and a light snack will be provided at the finish. Friends and neighbors are also encouraged to participate as virtual riders and to cheer along the route. Come join in the fun for a great cause!
Last year over 120 bicyclists partnered with local sponsors, donors and volunteers to enjoy the ride. There are no administrative costs and 100% of all proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. We hope that the folks of Maine and visitors to our area will join us to support this very worthwhile cause.
